Government to pay for electrical safety checks for homes insulated under National Insulation Program - click on photo for detail
Member for Rankin Craig Emerson has welcomed the Government’s announcement that it will pay for electricians to inspect every home that has had foil insulation installed under the Home Insulation Program.
"Our local foil insulation installation companies and manufacturers have a great reputation for quality work and many of them have been in this business for many years without complaints regarding product or installation safety," Dr Emerson said.
“However, after the alarming reports about this issue, it's clear we need to to reaffirm the safety of this particular type of insulation and the quality of work our local installers deliver."
Homeowners who have had foil insulation installed under the program will be able to engage a licensed electrician to conduct a safety inspection, and where necessary, carry out rectification work - and the government will pick up the bill.
As well, the government is organising inspections of all home which have had foil insulation installed under the scheme to ensure there are no dangers, and to give residents peace of mind.
Letters will soon be sent to all affected householders and a hotline - number 131 792 - will operate from 8am on Thursday 11 February.
