Twenty-one Rankin schools will receive a funding boost under the $1.5billion Rudd Government Smarter Schools Program, local MP Craig Emerson announced this week.

Visiting Regents Park State School and Woodridge State High School with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Education Julia Gillard, and State Education Minister Geoff Wilson, Mr Emerson said he was delighted with the extra funds.

Precise funding allocations for each school are yet to be settled but those to benefit are Algester State School, Berrinba East State School, Boronia Heights State School, Browns Plains State School, Burrowes State School, Crestmead State School, Harris Fields State School, Kingston State School, Kingston College, Mabel Park State School, Marsden State School, Marsden High School, Regents Park State School, Shailer Park State School, Slacks Creek State School, Springwood Central State School, Springwood Road State School, Stretton State College, Woodridge North State School and Woodridge State High School.

Mr Emerson said the announcement built on funding already provided by the Federal Government for better learning facilities for our children under the Building the Education Revolution and Computers in Schools program.
"Since the Rudd Government was elected, our local schools have received more federal funding for educational programs and basic infrastructure than they did in total under the previous Coalition Government. This announcement is the best outcome for our schools and our children," Mr Emerson said.
"For years, no special Commonwealth funding flowed to needy schools but that's changed under the Rudd Government.
"We want to make sure all our kids have access to the best possible education."
